MOOSE HILL - A unique piece of the Nordic “like in Lappland “ and closer than you think (30 min from Seinäjoki / 60 min from Vaasa)

MOOSE HILL is a high-quality meeting and experience destination surrounded by authentic Finnish wilderness. Here, meetings, activities, sauna and food come together in one seamless experience – with warm hospitality and a touch of Nordic magic.

Enjoy Nordic Cuisine, local flavours and the best seasonal ingredients. Experience the deep heat of a traditional smoke sauna, birch whisk (vihta) an ice-cold dip (avanto) and stories from Finnish sauna culture. On winter evenings, you may even see the Northern Lights (revontulet) dancing above you – the feeling of Lapland, closer than you might expect.

We host meetings and corporate events in the peace of the wilderness, while still offering modern technology and high-quality services. Your day can be tailored to suit your group, combining meetings, dining, sauna and an exceptional range of activities.

Husky rides, snow scooters, electric fatbike safaris, traditional kick sledding (potkukelkka), laser shooting, team challenges, fire and grilling in the kota hut – and much more. Experiences you simply do not find everywhere.
Authentic nature. High-quality service. Nordic atmosphere.

MEETINGS IN THE WILDERNESS

MEETINGS IN THE WILDERNESS

Where silence makes room for better ideas

At MOOSE HILL, the meeting begins before the first slide appears on the screen. You follow the wooden boardwalk through forest and open bog landscape. The air carries the scent of wood, moss and smoke. In winter, snow softens every sound. In autumn, mist drifts slowly across the bog. As evening falls, fires are lit and the forest seems to move a little closer. For a while, emails, traffic and everyday noise disappear.

And something changes. Thoughts slow down. Conversations deepen. People begin to listen differently. At MOOSE HILL, a meeting becomes an experience. We host management meetings, strategy days, workshops, customer events and team days for groups looking for something beyond the ordinary conference room.

MODERN TECHNOLOGY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WILDERNESS

The landscape may feel timeless, but the meeting environment is thoroughly modern. AV technology, presentations and connections work quietly in the background, allowing your group to focus on what matters. Nature around you. Technology when you need it. Distractions left behind. It is a rare combination.

MEETING + NORDIC EXPERIENCE

At MOOSE HILL, the day does not have to end when the final agenda point is complete. The meeting can continue into the forest, beside the fire or into the heat of the sauna.

Your programme can include:

  • Nordic Cuisine lunch or dinner
  • smoke sauna and ice swimming
  • electric fatbike safaris
  • outdoor team challenges
  • husky experiences
  • fire and stories in the kota
  • Finnish sauna traditions and old ritual verses
  • a quiet evening surrounded by wilderness

And sometimes nature adds something we cannot schedule:
mist over the bog, complete silence, a sky full of stars – or the Northern Lights dancing above MOOSE HILL.

WHEN THE BEST IDEAS ARE NOT BORN IN A BOARDROOM

Not every decision needs to be made around a conference table.
Sometimes the best conversation happens on a forest trail.
Sometimes the answer appears beside a fire.
Sometimes it arrives in the silence of a smoke sauna.
At MOOSE HILL, work and experience do not compete with each other.
They make each other stronger.
Meet. Think. Eat. Explore. Breathe.
And when the day is over, your guests may not only remember what was discussed.
They will remember where it happened.

NORDIC CUISINE

Nordic Cuisine is not a single dish or a fixed collection of recipes – it is a way of thinking about food. At its heart are seasonal ingredients, nature, local producers, simple preparation and Nordic food traditions interpreted in a modern way.

At Hirvivaara, this means honest, flavourful food where the quality of the ingredients comes first.

LOCAL FLAVOURS – A TASTE OF OSTROBOTHNIA

We favour Finnish ingredients and local producers, creating our menus around the season, the occasion and the wishes of our guests.

For many of our international visitors, Finnish food culture is an experience in itself. Our aim is to bring together Ostrobothnian flavours, Finnish nature and warm Nordic hospitality.

DINING AT HIRVIVAARA

We provide dining for groups of up to 30 guests, and during the summer season for groups of up to 55 guests. Meals are always served at the table, allowing your group to relax, enjoy the food and spend time together. Lunches and menus are created according to the season, your preferences and your budget.

FROM OPEN SANDWICHES TO LUNCHES

We offer, for example, Danish-style open sandwiches, ideal for meetings, a light lunch or a relaxed break during the day.

Lunch options can range from traditional meatballs to grilled chicken and seasonal dishes built around fresh ingredients.

DINNER MENUS

Dinner is available as 2-, 3- or 4-course menus.
Rather than offering one fixed menu, we create each dinner according to the occasion, the guests’ preferences, the budget and the best seasonal ingredients available.
This allows us to make every dinner a little different – and a little more personal.

LOCAL INGREDIENTS

Good food starts with good ingredients.
Our partners include Atria, Herrgårdsin Savustamo, Ruotsalan Kala and Snickars Deli. We source cheeses and delicacies from Materiet at Vaasa Market Hall, while fresh bakery products are supplied by local bakeries including Aroma, Makupaja and Pirjon Pakari.

MOOSE HILL SAUNA EXPERIENCE

MOOSE HILL SAUNA EXPERIENCE

At MOOSE HILL, sauna is more than heat and steam. It is one of the most authentic ways to experience Finnish culture, nature and wellbeing.

We have two traditional Finnish saunas, each with its own character.

Our smoke sauna offers deep, soft heat, dark timber walls and the unmistakable scent of wood and smoke. Beside the smoke sauna, guests can cool down in an ice-cold natural bog pool, and during winter, experience a true Finnish ice-hole dip.

Our larger Vihta Sauna is heated by a continuously burning wood-fired stove and is especially well suited for groups. Its spacious interior makes it easy to enjoy the sauna together in a relaxed atmosphere.

Because there are two separate saunas, men and women can enjoy the sauna experience at the same time without having to wait or take turns. Before entering the sauna, we introduce our guests to the history and traditions of Finnish sauna culture. We tell stories about the old beliefs surrounding the sauna and share traditional Finnish sauna sayings, charms and ritual verses.

The sauna experience can also be combined with other MOOSE HILL services, such as outdoor activities, grilling by the fire or a Smoke. Steam. Birch. Fire. Cold water. Silence.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Both saunas have large outdoor terraces, ideal for cooling down between sauna sessions and enjoying the surrounding nature.

There are three changing rooms in total.
Showers and indoor toilets are located in the main building.

We want the sauna experience to feel effortless and comfortable from start to finish. For our guests, we provide:

  • high-quality shampoo and shower products
  • hairdryers
  • hair styling products
  • fresh sauna seat covers
  • rental sandals
  • fresh, clean towels
  • bathrobes
  • swimwear available for rent

Cleanliness is an essential part of our hospitality. Both saunas are prepared with fresh sauna seat covers, and the saunas, changing areas and other hygiene facilities are thoroughly cleaned after every group. We want every guest to enter the sauna feeling completely at ease and able to focus on what matters most: the warmth, the steam and the moment.

THE STORY OF THE FINNISH SAUNA

For generations, the sauna was far more than a place to wash.
In traditional Finnish culture, it was considered a sacred space where fire, water, smoke and steam came together.
The sauna was seen as a place between the visible and the unseen world — a place for cleansing, healing and preparing for life’s most important moments. People were born in the sauna, treated there when they were ill, prepared for marriage through bridal sauna rituals, and washed there after death. The sauna followed a person through the entire cycle of life. Its peace was not to be disturbed.
People were expected to behave respectfully, because the sauna was believed to have its own spirit and guardian.

THE SAUNATONTTU – GUARDIAN OF THE SAUNA

According to old Finnish folklore, every sauna could have its own guardian spirit, known as the saunatonttu.
It was described in many ways — sometimes as an old man, sometimes as a woman, and sometimes as a mysterious figure living quietly in the shadows of the sauna. The saunatonttu protected the building, watched over the fire and expected guests to behave properly. Noise, swearing and disrespect were traditionally avoided. After the final bathers had left, some families even believed it was good manners to leave a little warmth and steam behind for the guardian of the sauna.

LÖYLY – THE SPIRIT OF THE SAUNA

The Finnish word löyly means more than steam.
In old Finnish beliefs, it was also connected with spirit, breath and life force.
When water is thrown onto the hot stones and the steam rises, the sauna seems to come alive.
Even today, Finns speak of good löyly, soft löyly or strong löyly, almost as if the steam had a personality of its own.

BIRCH, VIHTA AND THE HEALING SAUNA

Birch has long held a special place in Finnish tradition.
A vihta is a bundle of birch branches used in the sauna. Warmed by the steam, the leaves release their scent and gently stimulate the skin. The fragrance of birch, the warmth of the sauna and the rhythmic touch of the vihta create a strong connection with nature.
Traditionally, the sauna was also considered a place of healing. Folk healers treated people there, and sauna was used to cleanse both body and mind before important stages of life.

THE SMOKE SAUNA – CLOSEST TO THE ORIGINAL

Of all Finnish sauna traditions, the smoke sauna perhaps comes closest to the old world.
No humming machinery. No rush. Only darkened timber walls, heated stones, the scent of wood and smoke, and soft steam slowly filling the room. Then comes the contrast.
Step outside into the cold air, breathe deeply and, if you dare, plunge into icy water.
That moment between heat and cold, fire and water, silence and breath captures something essential about Finnish sauna culture.
Steam. Smoke. Silence.
Welcome to the Finnish sauna at MOOSE HILL.

THE STORY OF MOOSE HILL

THE STORY OF MOOSE HILL

From a boy’s dream to a unique wilderness destination

The story of MOOSE HILL began long before there were saunas, meeting rooms or activities.

When Reino was only five years old, he was already spending time in the landscapes of Hirvivaara. While the village men went hunting, little Reino stayed behind at the camp, watching over the fire and keeping it burning.

In the evenings, he listened to the men telling stories about the forest, nature, life and the old days.

It was there, by the glow of the campfire in the middle of the forest and bog landscape, that a thought took root in the young boy’s mind:
When I grow up, I want to build my own home right here.

Years passed and life moved forward, but the dream never disappeared.

When Reino eventually retired, he returned to the dream he had carried with him since childhood and decided to make it real.

He began building in the very landscape where he had once sat beside the fire as a small boy.

At first, it was simply his own place and his own dream.

Slowly, however, it grew into something much more.

Over the years, the place developed into a sauna, meeting and experience destination, known for its unique atmosphere and extraordinary natural surroundings.

At Reinon Tupa, guests experienced traditional smoke sauna, peat sauna, peat treatments, swimming in a natural bog pool, meetings surrounded by nature and a wide variety of outdoor activities.

The bog, the forest, the sauna, the fire and Finnish nature were never simply a backdrop.

They became part of the identity and soul of the place.

BUILT TOGETHER

As the years passed, a community of people formed around Reino and helped the place grow.

Alongside his own family came local craftsmen, builders, chefs, guides and skilled professionals from many different fields.

Each of them brought something of their own to the story.

The place was not created overnight, nor according to one fixed master plan.

It grew gradually – through people, ideas, needs and experiences.

In the early 2000s, Reino’s eldest son Marko took the helm and continued developing the business.

At the same time, he preserved the original idea behind the place: being close to nature, offering genuine hospitality and creating experiences that feel different from the ordinary.

In 2025, another new chapter began.

Pekka, the son of Reino’s late good friend Esko Anttila, became the new owner.

A friendship and shared history spanning decades became part of the continuation of MOOSE HILL.

The story did not end with a change of ownership. It simply entered a new generation and a new era.

FROM REINON TUPA TO MOOSE HILL

The place has changed and developed over the years, but the original idea has remained.

Reino never set out to build a hotel, a conventional conference centre or a mass tourism destination.

He built his dream in the middle of the bog.

Today, that same spirit lives on under the name MOOSE HILL.

MOOSE HILL brings together Finnish nature, meetings, Nordic Cuisine, sauna, experiences and an exceptional range of activities in a setting where old traditions meet modern comfort.

´Modern meeting technology works in the middle of the forest. High-quality food is served surrounded by wilderness. From the heat of a traditional smoke sauna, guests can step directly into cold water. A meeting day can suddenly turn into an electric fatbike safari, a team challenge or an evening around the fire.

The services may have developed, but the original idea is still easy to recognise:
an authentic place, genuine people and real nature.

EVERY GUEST IS ROYALTY

Over the decades, the place has welcomed heads of state, international business leaders, well-known personalities and guests from around the world.

Reino, however, had his own way of looking at titles and status.

He used to say that in the garden of Tapio, the King of the Forest, there is only one true king – Tapio himself.

But when a guest enters through the gate and begins walking along the wooden boardwalk towards MOOSE HILL, something changes.

Here, the title on your business card does not matter.

It makes no difference whether you are a head of state, a CEO, an employee, an entrepreneur or someone experiencing the Finnish forest for the very first time.

The moment you walk through the gate, you are royalty.

And you will be treated accordingly.

That has been at the heart of the hospitality here since Reino’s time – and it still is today.

A boy by the campfire.
A dream in the middle of the bog.
Decades of work.
Thousands of encounters.
And a story that is still being written.
